2015 Honda Accord crosstour 118k miles
in service 8k miles

out/off: 4.5 quarts PUP 5w-30 and .5 quarts HPL EC30 with OG Fram Titanium FS7317

in/on: 4 quarts PUP 5w-30 and 1 quart HPL EC30 with Carquest premium 84356

long live the king. this car is an employee at my old job and it likes to burn about a quart over 5k miles. the oil baffle is heavily caked in varnish so i am trying to slowly clean it with HPL and get it to stop burning oil.

"The king" has been showing some cracks lately. Potentially, same issue here since no more black seal material. That oil is dark so EC might be doing something.

No leaf spring seal version with center tube holes instead of louvers, but leaf spring looks smooth. Could tell better if the oil was wiped off of it.

What you mean OG, did they change something ?
The version with wire backed media, but the true OG ("original gangster" - meaning original version) Titanium and Ultra also had the fiber ring seal on the leaf spring, which the one posted here doesn't, so it's really only half OG.

The newest Titanium and Ultra design does not have wire backed media or the leaf spring seal.

To be explicit, they downgraded the media from 2 ply full synthetic to 2 layer synthetic blend.

But there are exceptions;

1) Some spin on filters have wire backing with new media
2) One cartridge filter (that I am aware of) still has the OG media and wire backing.

It's a hodge-podge depending on if it's a spin-on or cartridge. Some cartridge filters from Fram have always been out sourced, so those nay not be following the changes seen to the filters actually manufactured by Fram.
