After all, this is a new car.
My understanding is that the OEM windshield is a higher quality part, that will hold up better (less delamination over time) and will fit better.
This matters even with a glued in windshield, since it will reduce the risk of leaks over time.
On a new machine, I would go OEM.
What about her insurance?
It isn't a chargable event, it is comprehensive coverage damage, and they will surely contribute something.
The thing is, I bet this will probably happen again.
In CA, glass coverage falls under comprehensive with no special provisions. Our policy has a $1000 deductible, so I'm SOL, not that I would use it anyway.
The local shop said they'll install an aftermarket PPG windshield for $300, which is about $50 higher than other shops, but they'll be here first thing tomorrow so I'm call it a done deal.
