My car's battery is original and he was built in August 2017. Even though he starts immediately every time I know the battery won't last forever. So, I've been researching batteries. Anyone have an opinion of Odyssey Performance batteries?

I'd say the most important thing when it comes to buying a new battery is the warranty and how easy it is to get replaced if the battery dies under warranty, Odyssey batteries are usually special order so if it dies on you you'll have to be without a battery for a few days while a replacement is ordered. I'd just get whatever battery you can get locally with the best price and warranty.

I have no personal experience with Odyssey batteries so take this for what you will....

Years ago, they were considered the "best" batteries available in a lot of circles. Yes, they are almost 2x the price of normal batteries but most people considered them worth the extra. As of a few years ago, the general consensus that I've read is that things have changed for the worse with them, whether they've outsourced the manufacturing of them, maybe they're made overseas now, etc, I don't know. Have you read similar things in your research ?

I have to agree with blufeb95's points. If my battery dies unexpectedly, I need a replacement as quick as possible and if that means a warranty exchange (ideally) at a nearby auto parts store or Walmart, that would be my choice.

Yes, expensive, but superb.

I use them in my offshore boat, and have one in my truck thats 14 years old.

Have one in the 4Runner. I run a refrigerator off of it in the summer when we camp and it provides the juice to do that plus start the truck. They are really expensive, but worth it if you’re going to need the extra capacity they have. If you’re just needing a battery to start the vehicle, I wouldn’t bother.

Odyssey batteries are still superb. However, they are just like any other lead-acid battery. They do not tolerate misuse and abuse. The way to get them to last is simply to use them properly.

As a general rule, one can use an Odyssey battery about 1/2 the physical size of a conventional flooded lead-acid battery and get the same cranking power. There is no magic here, the Odyssey batteries are crammed full of plates.

My Jaguar F-Type uses an 85 pound AGM battery in the very back of the trunk. Replacement with a much smaller Odyssey is a viable choice.

The Odyssey battery is a great choice for cranking over a high compression Lycoming engine. These newest versions of these beasts with 5.320" bores are not easy to start.

Odessey in my Tahoe, 5 yrs now no issues. I wanted a quality battery in it as it sees subzero start conditions in winter.
Put one in my standby generator also as other batteries didn't' last in the same conditions.
One in my HD also for 10 years now, still cranks strong.
Expensive but if vehicle is going to be around long term it pays for itself over the long run.
