So I get called to my friends house to look at a monumental filter disaster where her younger son couldn't get his Mobil 1 filter of a 98 Z5 (mazda 1.5) motor, to make things worse, the older son decides to drive a screw driver thru it and when that doesn't work abandons the job.... but i digress
About 30 minutes of working at it, it is removed from being WAY too tight and i go to explain that the new filter (L14612) should be tightened 3/4 to 1 full turn after the gasket touches the block. (Written on the filter; I am trying to teach following instructions) I go to do it and there is no way it can be even turned 1/2 turn. Like I am sitting there looking at it and I've done tons of OC with purolaters (usually 14477 et al) and 3/4 turn is no problem, except with this one. Any more and the filter housing with hit the block.
I put it on with < 1/2 turn and run home to look @ another L14612 and the O ring is extremely close to the filter housing also. Seems like it should be easy to calculate the amount the o ring needs to protrude as being 1"/ # of threads per inch if the mfg is going to recommend 1 full turn so that the filter housing doesn't touch the block.
Anyone else have this issue with Purolators?
