I know..I need to do a UOA. But...2011 Jetta with the 2.5. I drive 8 miles each way to work, every day. Car gets to temp. Some other short trips, but at least once a week it gets a good long drive, usually at higher speeds on the highway. Have a stash of GC and M1 0w40. M1 is my preference and I feel fine about using that for 7.5k or even 10k. I want to use up the GC, so would you feel confident using GC for 7.5k under these circmstances? Again, I know this is a hard question to answer, but do your best! smile

Yes.
Agree 100% - GC will pretty well do any OCI M1 0W-40 can do.

Thanks for the quick response. IIRC, M1 has a higher TBN, but I was pretty sure GC would be fine for 7.5k. Looking to go back to M1 in the next year and bump it to 10k. Thanks again.

You should be GOOD TO GO!!!! Me being anal, did oil changes early since the engine was new. But you wont have any problems.

My wife mainly does a few miles per trip in her 08 2.5 VW. It is from school to school or patient to patient. We found that VW 504/507 oils protected well, but TBN was shot at 5k. The higher TBN of GC or M1 0w-40 means it should be retained better and allow 7500-10k OCIs. Her OM states that the first change was due at 5k, then 10k, then every 10k after. The service computer chimes off every 5k, so Ive been changing the oil at that interval (which with the 504/507 oil, glad I did!). Technically she should be able to do a 10k OCI on a non low SAPS oil per the OM, but we will see how this next OCI comes up to determine how it all works in the end... Ill bet youre OK with 7500-10k OCIs on the syn oil at that use pattern. Previously we determined in my mother's 2.0L plymouth breeze that non-severe OCIs could be maintained using syn oil, even with 5 block commutes (about 25 x 5 block commutes per week), so long as a long drive getting everything up to temp and load was done every so often...
