Hi everyone. I've been lurking here a while and just now decided to post. I'm in the military stationed in Guam, where it's really hot and humid. I recently purchased an '06 Dodge Magnum with the 3.5L v6, new, from the dealership (awesome deal on a previous year model car). I got the itch to change the oil at about 300 miles because I knew the car had been on the lot a long time before we bought it.
I put in PP 10w30 after reading all the good reviews on it on this forum and a K&N hp2004 oil filter. I make frequent short trips of 2 miles or less and every couple of weeks get out in some stop and go traffic, where I get up to 60mph, but not for more than a couple of miles at a time. Also, we've had this car since January and have just now broken 2000 miles on it, so we don't do a lot of driving obviously.
Question is, how long should I wait to change the oil. I checked the stick recently and the oil looks as clean as when I put it in. I read alot about 5000miles/6 months on synthetics like PP. I was just wondering if the frequent short trips and weather usually over 90 degrees year round would shorten that interval, or would I be good to go for longer since we don't put that many miles on the car. Thanks for the help guys.
