OCI for OPE

I think Briggs suggests 50 hour OCI for engines with no filter and 100 hour OCI for engines with filter. I change yearly at the end of season so as not to have dirty, possibly acidic oil sit in the mower over the winter. Given my small yard I doubt if I get to 100 hours per year. Not sure if they have winter in Texas :-)

We do have winter in TX. However, its almost exclusivly in the north and west locals, like the TX "panhandle". I live in the opposite corner, on the Gulf Coast. My area is much more simular to Louisiana than it is to north and west TX.

The push mower doesn't have a filter but I usually do a yearly drain and fill. No drain plug so that means tipping it over or using the fluid pump to empty it.

It gets whatever I have laying around for a 30 grade oil ... 5/10/SAE 30. I believe it's running some old sears oil that came in a cardboard can.

I have a ZTR with a Kawasaki FS V Twin.

Kawasaki says 100hrs or 1 year. I've owned this since July 2015 and I've put 75 hours on it since then. I decided that I use it enough each time that 100hr changes seems appropriate. I also use Amsoil Small Engine 30wt, so I could probably go 150 or 200, but 100hrs is a nice number.

I've got close to 30 years on the John Deere STX and it gets changed one a year, always has

I do the same thing since I don't log anywhere near 50 hours run time during a season. At the end of the season I clean the machine, put fresh gas with a stabilizer in, and a shot of MMO. Then run it until its good and hot, fog it, and change the oil. That method has worked well for over 35 years of owning a house.

I did the same on my STX30. That thing is a tank. My grandfather bought it new in 1992 and I used it regularly up until last year when I moved to a larger property. 24 years old and doesn't use a bit of oil and appears to have full power. It did kick a gearbox in 2013, sourced one from a STX 38 and it was back to work.

Thanks! Sometimes I can figure out the acronyms but every once in a while I am stumped.
