O2 sensor install wrong?!

Hi guys,

I recently replace both o2 sensors on my accent and i still have a lean code from the upper o2 sensor.

I never had o2 sensor problem until the dealer found the top one was worn. But the check engine light was only on and off, intermitent. I will go to my mecanic this weekend and plug the scan to see if everythin is fine, allready done that too.

I noticed the the upper o2 is screw, but its not strait, its like in an angle. The end of the sensor was usualy pointing strait to me, but now it look like its been screw cross thread, not strait anymore.

Is this can affect the sensor, create leak?
How stupid those mecanic at the hyundai dealer can be!?

Btw my check engime light is on now, its been two weeks now, strait.....

If it is in fact cross threaded it may not be seating on the metal crush washer.
That could easily cause a leak and may be a real pain to fix depending on how far the got it in and how buggered the threads are.

Worst case a new O2 sensor and a 18mm insert or a new bung welded in.

I probably need to wait the engine is cold for that, plus I domt have a socket for o2 sensor.... I think I will wait this weekend, my mecanic is a friend of my father, master mecanic at a chevy dealer, he have the experience with those [censored] jobs... Not me!

I put both ngk sensors, apparently they are good comapred to bosh...

Did you get OEM sensors or NGK ones branded as "OEM"? Reason I ask is they are not the same.

I got the ngk oem band, it should be fine, but really it looks cross threaded....

NGK and Denso are very good.
I would pull the sensor and run a 18mm spark plug thread chaser down the bung with some penetrating oil. It may clean the threads up enough to get it in straight again, use a little copper never seize on the O2 threads.

The thread chaser can be had at any parts store for 10 bucks or less, it will have 14mm on one end and 18mm on the other.
The 18mm is the same thread as O2 sensors.

Are you sure it is O2 that is at fault? Could it be a leak or a cracked header? or bad wiring or computer?

why not? he could check it while the engine is cold. if it is going to leak, it is going to leak even more when the engine is cold. when I swapped my O2 sensor, I had not tightened it enough and saw smoke escaping.

I'd believe that the stealership monkey cross threaded the unit in.
I went through the same issue with cross threaded lug nuts on my car some time ago, I honestly don't see how this can easily happen unless it is deliberate .

My guess is the crooks did that purposely so that they could steal more money from you claiming that the O2 sensor was not the original problem for the engine light.

I believe that the fraudulent activities in the dealership service departments are literally epidemic today. Most are thieves many are incompetent, some are both and only a tiny few are competent, and honest.
