I’ll be changing the water pump today I was wondering what I should use to lubricate the o ring. I have lots of lubricants, but not ones for actual O-rings

I'd use coolant or grease. Even a few drops of motor oil. Dry o-rings lead to leaks.

Just my $0.02

CRC Food grade silicone spray is what i use to lube any rubber on a vehicle. helps get hoses on, intake boots, O-rings etc.

Because oil degrades o-rings. either shrinks or swells them.
I guess you have never seen o-rings used to seal piping containing oil then?
There are many oil containing items in a vehicle that use o-rings to seal them.

The standard black orings from harbor freight, work fine with oil.

I have and you can spec a material that is more resistant. But why on a water pump?

Except for the goofy BMW stuff, I'm sure the o rings supplied for some aftermarket coolant pump are not going to have some latex orings. Latex :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The talk was about using oil on them to slip parts together???
