Nothing like using every inch of runway

"I've got enough to film the crash"!

I think that's Canberra airport.

They don't land 747s there unless it's the queen or something (lightly loaded), due to the runway length.

Man, that was one CLOSE call. If I were a passenger aboard there would be no doubt that I would be instantly cured of any and all degrees of constipation.

I'm pretty sure it was filmed there.

Launching off the ship on several occasions we saw planes catch a cold catapult that developed sink rates over the water that were so dramatic the exhaust kicked up spray off the surface of the sea they were so close to going in. Spectacular if you weren't on the airplane. Those guys never gave a damm. They flip the bird at disaster and go on their merry way..

I've gone back to this one at least a half-dozen times, and it just keeps getting funnier. The tone of the cameraman/controller's expletive as the jet lurches into the air at the last moment is priceless.

Giving it some more serious thought, I do wonder if those guys had a plan for a high-speed abort or engine failure???

ekpolk, when I was in Air Cadets, I used to be on that airport/base weekly.

Look a the end of the runway, and the road that crosses it.

If their escape plan included powering across a public road, then they may have had one.
