That reminds me, wife laughs at me but whenever I have a cold I tend to feel cold, no matter how many blankets I pull over me. As a little kid I learned that most of our heat loss is out of our noggins. Ergo, if I have the chills, I take a small blanket and tuck around my head. Works wonders at keeping me warm.
And I agree, I often feel like just baking it out of me gets it over with faster.

You should know better than to come to work sick.
I have 160 hours of sick pay and never hesitate to stay home if I'm not feeling good.
I tell my coworkers (at least my direct reports), whenever they ask me if they should work from home, the same thing: I don't want what you got. It's an office, so going to work with half a brain is apt to be a waste of time--if you can't think, you can't work, at least not where I am.

Last year I had a sore throat for 3 weeks, 2 of which was quite painful. That was bad but luckily after the first few days it was not much more than that. Several years ago we made our trek to my inlaws; I don't recall feeling bad that morning, nor at lunch. But then I started feeling bad about mid afternoon, and finally around dinner I simply crashed. Spent the next few days in bed. Nothing like having the flu at your inlaws.
