Dex VI. Pretty much all the Dex VI that I can find is a full Synthetic. The only regular Dex VI I could find was ST's Dex at Wal Mart. How come there are so few choices?

Would anyone use ST Dex VI in their cars? I have no issues with their oil, but I know very little about their ATF.......

Sure would. I havne't heard anything to steer me otherwise. I hear you on selection though. It's really bad in the Buffalo area as well. In fact, I was *REAL* tempted to run the ST +4 ATF in my Hyundai. I had it in my cart. In the end I chickened out because it doesn't say "suitable for use where SP-III is specd" on the bottle. Just says suitable for some hyundais and Mitsubishis. Had to go to Napa for Maxlife. My Wally doesn't even carry that.

All? Even ST? It sure does not say it....

Then at 3.99, it look like a deal then..cheapest I've seen beyond that was 5.49....

Hmm..I wonder who makes it then? That's a decent price difference...

It's like getting Dex VI at Dex III prices....

I have been using the ST Dex VI for about a year now and I'm happy with it.

Castrol states that their DexVI is a syn blend. I see it for sale at Advance Auto. Pennzoil doesn't say anything about being synthetic and it is sold in a yellow bottle. I see it for sale at Pep Boys.

Anyway, DexVI is expensive because it requires some expensive additives, and must pass some extreme tests.

If Dex VI is a syn, then it is fine.

I plan to change the ATF in the Cobalt every 30k, beacuse this poor car sees quite a bit of city driving in an area where no one knows how to drive. As long as the fluid is nice and clean, and spec'd, I'm not worried about it.

My Balt is the "beater" commuter car, and while I take good care of it, I'm not planning to spend too much extra money on it either....

I ran good old fashioned Valvoline Dex III in the wife's car, and now it drives great. Now, after I drop the pan at 80k, I might go full syn in her car.....

There's a monetary "tribute" that must be paid. That's where a chunk of the expense is. I think that GM just took an altered approach instead of what Chrysler did with +4. It required a class action to get that released for license.

Hmm, It may be it isnt as strict as I thought it was.. Its possible it had to be syn to meet spec initially.. Nonetheless, like you said it has to pass some extreme tests, so full syn or not, its good stuff. ST stuff is probably made by Warren, they have a Dexron-VI license number, according to a sheet I found.

All Dex VI are very similar. A syn blend can meet the spec. Just about every Dex Vi is a blend so just go with the cheapest, i.e. Super Tech. Valvoline does make a full synthetic Dex VI.

Your manual says you can go 50k miles of city driving with all Dex VI, not just a full synthetic.

True, but the last owner beat the poor trans in this car. Not taking chances.

I'm thinking the fluid is is in decent shape, but I'll still change it not too long down the road.....
