As I read the informational paper that came in the box of the CARQUEST ATF filter I picked up for the 4L60E. It's a repackaged SPX Filtran filter and I picked up that certain brand due to some brands not properly designing the media leading to pressure drops.
Here's an interesting site where the owner sited loss of ATF pressure 20,000mi after changing the fluid and filter.

The media was being sucked into the pickup tube since the filter body design did not incorporate spacing between the pickup tube and media. It lead to fluid restriction and pressure drop. The OEM GM filter incorporates the spacing between the body and filter so the media does not get picked up. The Filtran filter I picked up has the spacing between the pickup and filter so it should not exhibit this problem.
