I get so-so-so tired for any statement that starts with-
"the main stream media"............
Like the only news that can be found are those you need a subscription for...Yea-I'm thinking off the one the starts with "F" and has so called "news alerts" every ten minutes-that is any things other than political opinions.

Just imagine fueling your car in Hong Kong.
You do know Hong Kong is like 25 square kilometer in size right (literally their urban area is the size of Manhattan)? My friend drove me from one end to another in 30 mins at night after dinner and he intentionally go in the opposite commute direction because he likes driving and hate traffic.

Their fuel is not their biggest expense. Their 100% vehicle sales tax and parking spot (can cost $100-200 a month easily) cost is.

It's survival in many regards. Look at developing nations; burning dung and wood for heat. Natural gas and oil might as well be nuclear power to them.

Even for 1st world nations, over-regulation of environmental standards is taking, in my understanding, away from progress and reasonable costs.

Of course don't dump garbage in rivers and have some guard rails but trying to reduce carbon emissions at massive scales, or else, doesn't work IRL without massive penalties to end users IMHO.

China, despite all it's green energy pollutes more than multiple countries combined. If you remove carbon generation from one country, i.e. factories etc, it's offset in China with manufacturing said product there with even less guard rails. It's a complicated topic and that's jus tmy understanding.
It is impossible to see the real per capita emission if you don't look at how much of the energy used is for manufacturing for export economy.

You can regulate till your local industry extinct then move to a place with no regulation, then white wash your own emission, then demonize your suppliers. In the end it is really just white washing.

I don't think we have a lower emission than China. I know people living in both countries and we use A LOT MORE energy and products made with huge amount of energy in the US.

Denmark is approximately 6 million people, with remarkably consistent terrain, a very small land area, and remarkable homogeneity among the population.

If I had 6 million Vikings, who all looked the same and all thought the same, I could get a lot of things done that the Vikings would approve.
This is my third reply to this. Same exact quotation, but I decided against it twice. But the third time is a charm.

Norway is perennially one of the happiest countries in the world.
What does that mean? Have you met any Norvegian? I would argue that any nation in South Europe is far happier.
What that survey doesn’t show are expectations. Generally people in Nordic countries think their expectations are met. But what are those expectations? That is unique to culture, tradition, nation.
It is really not very good way to observe a nation.

Our family spent 2 1/2 weeks in Denmark in 2024. Copenhagen and a summer home on a fjord near Logstor. See pictures. We loved every minute there.

It is shear folly to compare Denmark to the United States. Denmark works for the Danes. It would never work for the average American. The mindsets are totally different.

That’s the beauty of travel.

I have been to 41 countries including Denmark. The forum members on here-while some do travel, generally that's a very small minority.

I have been to St. Petersburg -Russia, Antarctica, Egypt, Turkey, Brazil, Spain, Italy, been through the Panama canal-twice. The Baltics just to name a few.

My Canadian friend in Florida tells me about the sky high prices of beer, spirits and wine up there. He loves his winters in Florida for the weather and inexpensive alcohol.
Our prices are nothing like those being discussed though, lol. A 500ml can of beer here is like $3 unless you are buying craft, and then it might be $4 or so.

What was that video you claimed and complained was from "F", but was actually from some entity called 'Autotrends'?

My advice is to not get so easily wound-up, and maybe pay more attention to what you're complaining about.

If a single person in the western world cared, an immediate ban of all imports from China would be administered.

There is a real information operations war going on, and the CCP is undoubtedly executing flawlessly.
Yes! Kevin O'Leary was on TV today talking about how China does not want the USA to build out data centers. He said as soon as one is announced or any data center discussion takes place, social media just blows up with negative spin. Connect the dots.

I was replying to a post. If I am not "wound up" I get nervous......

You think the negative spin of data centers is just Chinese propaganda? Wow. You should talk to the small towns being ruined by these massive installations.

Most of those here have probably never been outside of the US other than maybe the Caribbean/Bahamas on cruises or Mexican all-inclusives.
When you visit a place like Istanbul, Tbilisi or Koper you are surrounded by historic structures older than anything in our country, sometimes by centuries (hey, is that the Roman aqueduct? Yep!) along with an entirely different lifestyle. This is neither better nor worse, it is merely different and should be savored by a traveler for what it is, not critiqued as compared to our own country.
Maybe you wouldn't want to live in these places but that doesn't mean that they are somehow inferior cultures, merely different.

Multiple things can be true at the same time. That is where the policy challenge(s) arise.

Now that we’re retired we are traveling abroad at least once a year.

Us too!
Nice to have the time to plan a trip unconstrained.
Also nice to have saved one's pennies during their working years so that one can afford to go somewhere beyond the local Costco.

China controls public opinion in the USA. The masses unable to critically think vote to our disadvantage.

Social media, not directed at you. However statements like this need a list of all data centers and the effects on the towns.
This is not scientific saying small towns being ruined vs total percentage of data centers. Industry in general can "ruin" small towns.
Even areas of retirement that people move into ruin small towns according to the people living there. I see it everyday, living in one of the fastest growing counties in the USA, the "local" say their small town is being ruined. However this is life. We are free to sell our land to the highest bidder and zoning boards decided long ago how that land can be used and they also decide if that land can be re-zoned.
Representatives elected by the people.

Its easy to lets say pick some towns out of a hundred promoting the bad effects that some portray. This is what China does.
Same goes for Nuclear power and all things political. Bottom line is as a nation we need these data centers if we are to stay a world power/ we also need electricity but that can is constantly kicked down the road, until one day if EVs on USA roadways ever goes from the current 4.5% to lets say 25%, 50% or more, there is no power.

China controls our social media through propaganda, the news media promotes it because the social media propaganda created the interest and the news media builds on that for advertising revenue.

Do you honestly believe either?
I'd say that most people are perfectly capable of voting in their own interest, although they are often prey to our own politicians promising things that are simply not possible which does betray a lack of critical thinking.
Chinese (or Russian) propaganda initiatives in US media, mainly social media, are so transparently obvious as to be more comedic than influential. It's always fun to spot and bait them, here as well as elsewhere.
