I have been using a non-hardening sealant for quite a few years ongaskets and surfaces etc called HYLOMAR..I've been very happy with its ability to NOT get hard and rubbery .Can't find it anymore and I wonder if any one can recommend a good ,non hardening sealant ?

My dad was a believer in Permatex #2. Being an old farmer and refinery pusher, he figured anything he put together would eventually have to come apart. Make sure you have some alcohol to clean up with, that Permatex 2 can be messy.

i still see the permatex hylomar at advance auto and autozone.
but I use permatex ultra copper for everything, it's non hardening more or less.

Never cared for assorted non-hardening goop, myself... but I've seen hylomar around on occasion. They still make it.

I've always used Permatex 2B non-hardening gasket sealant for sealing both fasteners and gaskets from oil or water over the course of 20 years or better, and I'm always amazed of how well it seals. If it's a paper or cork gasket, that's what I'll use on both sides of the gasket. I've never had a gasket fail on me with 2B.

I consider it to be the mechanic's best friend.
