Non-detergent Electric compressor oil?

It's a recent home shop addition. Got a great price used but don't know its maintenance history.

Medium-sized Ingersol Rand model 5E6V. 240V 5HP electric on twin cylinder single stage pump. Manual calls for 27oz "SAE 40 non-detergent naphthenic lube oil, containing rust and oxidation inhibitors".

I'm looking at Schaeffer's #158 ISO 150. Comments?

When I need 30wt non-detergent oil I use Redline MTL. Redline MT-90 should work for a 40wt non-detergent oil.

I don't why a naphthenic base oil would be recommended.

Yea, I have no idea either. It's probably the base for their own oil which they recommended in the next sentence.

If Bob says go I'll give the schaeffer compressor oil a try. Pretty soon I'll be looking for drain plugs on my razor. Trying to put my $250 order together.

I have seen naphthenic base oils recommended for ammonia refrigeration compressors. I guess PAOs and esters are more prone to attack by highly alkaline compounds. Makes sense considering how you make an ester, reacting an acid with an alchol.
