I don't know about regular Mobil 1 10W30, but the bottle of Mobil 1 High Mileage oil, 10W30, that I am looking at right now states the following: (1)Fully synthetic formulation with Supersyn, an extra high viscosity synthetic fluid. (2)Extra anti-wear additive helps protect critical engine parts. (3)Higher viscosity formula helps reduce oil burn-off and leakage.

Mobil 1 High Mileage only comes in 10W30 and 10W40, and is rated for API service SL and CF. It is not claimed to be a so-called "fuel saving" oil. It is also 24 cents a quart cheaper than regular Mobil 1 at my local Walmart.

I thought I was, too. "Extra high viscosity synthetic fluid", and "Higher viscosity formula". I would expect this "High Mileage" formula to be higher in viscosity than regular M1.

It seems HM has more PAO than regular.

I just looked up the Mobil oil website, and, sure enough, Mobil 1 5W30 IS thicker than Mobil 1 10W30 above freezing. Values are thus:

Regular Mobil 1 5W30: At 40C, 64.8; at 100C, 11.3

Regular Mobil 1 10W30: At 40C, 62.0; at 100C, 10.0

HM Mobil 1 10W30: At 40C, 78.2; at 100C, 11.79

So, the High Mileage Mobil 1 is thicker than either regular Mobil 1 formulations. As my engine can use either 5W30 or 10W30, I think I will be trying this next oil change. I already have several quarts that I purchased to use in my lawn mower and other OPE.

I just, not too long ago, switched to M1 from PP and it revs a lot better. Totally different car. Since I got the V6 which is super quiet in operation, the noise is non-factor and get dwarfed by the hot potato buttery smooth V6. M1+V6 = perfect combo of smoothness and power delivery. I love M1! It's like a MC on roids and without any pictures of varnishing in 3k OCIs (& 5k OCis).

All of you who claims that oil brand X is quieter than oil brand Y must have golden ears. I had many different oil brands and viscosities in the same car and never detected any different from one brand to another and from a thin 0W20 to a thick 15W50. The only different that I saw was fuel mileage improved by about 0.5-1.5 mpg for 0W20 compares with 15W50 in '00 MB E430.

Like some others, I am a Mobil 1 user as well as Redline. I have never had noise with M1. I hate to say that I don't believe these claims, but then again every motor and situation is different. I would like to see something more concrete and credible to support these claims, however. I did however have the exact same problem with an AC Delco filter where the oil pressure would be zero until you revved the engine than the pressure came up. Swapped out the filter and problem was gone. Put ac filter back on again and problem back. You can get a defective part at any time, glad you were smart to notice it before damage could have been done.

Never had noise with M1 either. Cars always ran great on it.
