My soninlaw has dsl and for the past few days can't get on the internet, all the tests pass, like the ping test and the little monitors light up on the lower tool bar and the computer seems to operate normal except for internet. Any ideas?

Try reseting the cable modem. Turn everything off for 10 sec. and restart it.
Already done that, rebooted computor and DSL modem. many times
Possible virus causing denial-of-service (DoS)? Just a wild guess...
Best bet is to call the dsl provider. You might have a defective network card. Got to break down the problem.
Isp address could be off. I've had ISP address that was off not on my end but from the providers server.
Also the cable modem was gving problems so I had that replaced.
Was there a software that you had to install with the DSL. You might want to reinstall that.

are you able to pull an ip addy or is the cpu self assigning one? try a diff computer. make sure you don't need dns numbers to connect. usually dsl or broadband uses dhcp. might want to have the isp "refresh" your ip address.
If you have a virus that's trying to get out, the ISP may be blocking your access to protect the other customers.

Its fixed, he has a router and they have three computers, there was a mixup with the IP's between the modem and the router. Between Verison and linksys its fixed. Thanks for all the help.
