no hoagie at Wawa

I perused the refrigerator to find something to take to work for lunch this morning. No luck. "I'll treat myself to a freshly made hoagie at the local Wawa", they're a convenience store, based in Pennsylvania.

Driving to work, about a block from the Wawa I spotted a grim looking, rather large, gray and black plume of smoke, in the direction of the Wawa store. As I drove by the Wawa, there on the lot was a medium sized truck, the type landscapers use with a snow plow on the front. Flames visible beneath the engine, flames rising a good three feet over the hood. It was pretty well involved. The lot was empty except for a police car. The little fire extinguisher I carry wouldn't put a dent in that. No hoagie from Wawa today.

He probably blew a transmission seal. My brother told me about this. Ya' gotta watch your transmission temperature. They overheat, blow the main seal, the torque converter slings the ATF into a mist and it gets on the red-hot exhaust system. Then it goes "woof" into fire. He had it happen to him once. Fortunately he was able to scoop and throw enough snow on the fire to extinguish it before it got going.

Whenever I return east, I eat too many Hoagies. A wawa hoagie would be a treat in Ca. Jersey Mike's is out here and can do OK, but is expensive and not enough cold cuts.

Publix Hoagies with Boar's head meats on a 9 grain loaf.

Might have to mix some redwine vineger, olive oil salt pepper and oregano and drink it like a cocktail to satiate my current hoagie craving.

Funny how names are different depending on where we live. I had to google "Wawa" and " "hoagie" cause I had no clue we were talking about a gas station that sells sandwiches.

Drive to Springfield, IL. Visit a Head West sub shop. Order the following: turkey bacon ranch on sweet bread, add veggies as you see fit, pay and enjoy heaven on bread.

Never mind the hippies with dreads and armpit hair (females at that). They are harmless and are just working until their next break to go toke up again.

Just over $5 for a 10" hoagie...and they are pretty darn good. You can watch them being made and the ingredients are fresh. The steak and cheese is my favorite there.

I saw that last time I was in Orlando.

Nothing worse than going someplace different and seeing no regional variety.

Wawa is everywhere here.

I miss Wawa down here in the Southeast!
They are everywhere up in the West Chester, PA area.

I used to live about 5 minutes away from the Wawa dairy
plant on RT 1, near the Franklin Mint. Hahaa

I don't know how much things have changed but they alway had some of the best quality roast beef, and excellent rolls too.
I used to order a hoagie from them about once a week at least.

We have Cumberland Farms...they have subs. (And hot dogs, and burgers, and pizza, and soft pretzels, and...)

They also have cheap coffee. And it's even GOOD coffee!

I'm from the Chicago suburbs.
My wife is from Philly.
She schooled me on Wawa years ago.
It's an institution out there.
Like a cross between 7-11 and crack cocaine.
Hoagie sandwiches, Tasty Cakes and chocolate milk are the loacal favorites.

I went to a Jersey Mikes in Raynham. I was totally unimpressed.
