nitro in RCs

i have been running RC for about 3 years. and started mixing my own niro. i have been running as much as 40%, but iam not sure if i gained any thing. my Q is. at very high percents do i use more compression or less? the engine is made to run about 20%-30% nitro, 15% oil, methanol 65%. the engine will run on 15%oil, 85% methanol but is way down on power. but i dont know what the compression ratio is. iam guessing 7-8.

you need too add shims for higher nitro or it will predetonate.
my son raced for 9 years, we stopped racing about a year ago.
we always ran 30% /11 byrons. 40 is too high unless your in colorado .
15% oil is way too much, thats killing your power 10-11% is much better.

todays engines are making so much power that there is no reason to try to get the to make more power. having a good clutch that can actually transfer the power is more important than nitro. ive had engines that were so powerful on 10% nitro that i had to just blip the throttle around the whole track.

your exactly right, the fastest rc cars in the world 1/8 on road all run 20%, any higher nitro just kills fuel miledge- they struggle to run 5 min. on a tank as it is.

Some engines seem to run better on 30%, but better might not necessarily equal faster (more nitro content = ever so slightly cooler temps)

The engine I have in my Savage got a lot better reviews with 30% than 20%. I never personally ran it with 20% so I dont know first hand.

Someday Ill get it up and running again....looking to replace the engine with something more durable and reliable like a Picco. Its true they make so much power now nitro content probably has little to no effect. Keeping the drivetrain in one piece is the challenge now!
