Nissan ATF type 4

So I just bought a 1995 Nissan 200SX for my daughter to drive. The spec for the ATF is Nissan Type4. What is that? I'm so used to Toyota using Dex III in everything. Curiously the power steering specifies DexII so I assume the current DexIIIs will ork fine. Can DexIII be used in place of the Nissan type F? The car has only 60k miles with a documented flush at 40k so I assume all is well but I will be swapping out all fluids. Thanks for any help. It's an SE-R model if that helps.

I have a 93 Sentra and use Dex III in power steering and transmission with no problems. I know Molekule stated the difference between Type F and Dex III is slight, but could not find the post. Did find one link that may be helpful:

I think your engine is like mine, and it has a screen filter in the transmission. One thing that trips some people up is trying to replace the transmission filter. It has one bolt/nut that is attached to a valve body above the filter. Once you take it out, it is very hard to get back. I had one power flush done, then had to replace the pan gasket 30,000 miles later. At 165,000 miles things were super clean, including the filter. So, I bet you are in great shape. From now on I am going to just drain in fill every 30,000 miles.

Nissan D-matic is pretty much equal to Dexron.

Please reread the dipstick and the owners manual for verification. Where did you get the designation "type 4"?

Thanks for the responses. The "type 4" was printed in the owners manual in the specs and capacities section. There was another reference to DexIIe that implied that that wold work, but the official word was this Nissan Type4. It's funny because my wife's '04 Sienna specifies Toyota type 4. I may swing by the dealer and ask the service rep since I'll need an oil filter. This car is pretty cool-it's a quick little guy. Tiny car, 2.0 motor, it's fun.

The nissan forums link was interesting, but at 45, I'm not likely to become a rice rocket driver, at least until I get my NSX. I did search for "atf" and did not find wat I was looking for.

What page of the owners manual?

D-matic(US) and DexronIII(Canada) were the choices for the ATF in the last 200sx manual that I've looked at.

My experience with Nissan PS reservoirs is that they'll work fine with any PS fluid or Dexron(whether 2 or 3).
