Hi guys
I noticed some posts about this oil and some advisory against its quality
Can someone please explain because I have over 40 qts that I got on clearance at WM for .50 each
I guess they were tired of seeing green bottles
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

It was an advisory on Nextgen 5W20 for an elevated NOACK %.
I've been using it along with other Ashland products without worry.

The PQIA advisory was for NOACK (high temperature evaporation) that was above API specifications.
This means that it could have high consumption when run in your engine.
NextGen is good oil, and many people on this site have run it successfully. Valvoline apparently has had a quality lapse on that particular batch, though.
You can use that oil, but I recommend that you check the dipstick regularly.

You made a nice score on the oil.
PQIA recently tested conventional 5W-20s and found Nextgen to have NOACK volatility well beyond the limit for the API SN spec the oil was claimed to meet.
This was apparently a bad batch and your oil may not be involved and probably isn't.
Every blender has had the occassional error in the blending process and in quality control. Valvoline just had the bad luck to be caught out in a very good VOA analysis.
If I were running the oil in a GDI or very high specific output application, I might be a little concerned.
I'd otherwise use the oil with confidence.
NOACK volatility is measured at temperatures most engines will never come close to in bulk oil temperature.
There are also some UOAs here that show Nextgen to hold up just fine in use.
Whether UOAs mean anything or not and whether they're about the condition of the oil or the condition of the engine is a debate for another thread.

At .50 you almost paid too much. Give them out as presents to people you really don't care for and chalk it up as a lesson learned.

It is going in my old pick up that I love
1987 ford 302
I put about 5000 miles a year on it and chage oil and filter once a year
I use good filters-mcraft. Pur classic. Fram tg
I only buy whats on sale but it must be a quality oil
I now have a 6 yr supply of this oil
I hate having this much because i still will keep an eye open for good deals
Oh well

Use it and do not worry. Nextgen is perfectly fine for your needs.

Really your stuff and consistent bashing of Valvoline is really getting old. You do not like it fine. Move on.

Hey Dallas and welcome.

If you do not want the oil, I have a daughter and son in law there. They will gladly pick it up and store it for me till I get out there. I will give you the 50 cents a quart you paid for it as well. Let me know. I will certainly put it to use at that price. Nice score by the way. Please let me buy it from you. Thanks in advance

Thank you for your subjective, pointless, fact less, baseless, opinion.

Duly noted and completely ignored.

Thanks for the offer but I will force myself to keep it
I think this was just a bad piece of marketing by Valvolene and alot of stores are getting rid of it
Jmo
