Nexen Tires okay?

I'm on the other side of the state. Yes, walmarts here install tires. Was eyeing up the Goodyear Reliant All-Season's which are apparently a walmart exclusive tire.

I made some changes and put some goodyear assurance maxlifes (for the mazda) 85K warranty, and goodyear assurance all seasons (for the Honda) 65K warranty in my cart at BJ's for $1300. It's a $300 price jump from the Nexens but I assume these are far greater tires. I'm sick of shopping and price comparing at this point so I may just pull the trigger. This includes a $20 BJ's membership as well.

Is snow/winter performance important to you, or do you use separate tires for winter?

And since you have a Mazda, I hope you get Krown done on it :D

I wouldnt buy nexen tires. I might not replace them immediately, but they are mostly on the below average mark for tires.
but better than no name China tires.

How sporty do you drive? (prices dont include discounts, rebates, etc.)
CONTINENTAL TRUECONTACT TOUR would be a high end normal tire in 205/55r16 $140
FALKEN ZIEX ZE950 A/S would be an entry level sporty tire. $88
COOPER ENDEAVOR is a mid-tier tire 115$ (50 on 4 rebate)

Plenty of other great tires in that size 205/55r16 is extremely common size.
Tell us more about your priorities from a tire.

ie Winter traction, wet traction, handling, quiet, cheap, etc.

I was looking at these as well. They complaints regarding noise made me buy tires made by Saliun-which are quiet.

I finally bit on tires from Amazon, installed by a local Jack Williams Tire & Auto. I did Hankook Ventus V2 Concept 2's on the Mazda which are a softer tire with only 45K warranty but this car only gets about 5-7K per year. And I did Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring's on the Van which were a 75K warranty 103H tire.

Call me crazy but I tend to buy tires with better grip and faster wear than the typical long wearing tires. I like fresh rubber between me and the road and my tires tend to age out before they wear out anyway.

I think those Hankook Ventus V2's are a rather highly rated tire. I've seen them on many cars at the grocery store parking lot so they may be an OE choice. They look good, I know that.

I have Falken on our Mazda 5 in that size and they have been on it for 3 years. Can't tell the road is wet. VERY LITTLE SNOW here in W.KY But good on what we have. Also have them on my 07 Ram 1500 Laramie and they are amazing. Have the Hankook tires on my little 90 Ranger. They have been good too.

I’ve never personally had nexens but I’ve installed them, and our fleet of promasters come with them from the factory. I don’t think they’re as bad as people are making them out to be, but I’ve never seen them to be enough of a value to buy for my personal cars. When you compare to other value brands they don’t make sense to me…I’d need to save a lot more $ to make the decision to buy nexens. I don’t mean value brand like cheap cheap tires.

I don’t go cheaper than Yokohama on anything of mine…lately I’ve been continental only but my last set of tires I actually splurged for Michelins from Costco. Having been out of the real world car repair business for so long I’ve lost all my hookups on cash deals and technicians discounts…as well as lost guys to do sidework and install for me as well. Costco just made the most sense at that point for my odd tire size.

Another note, this was from at least 12 years ago when we had no clue *** a nexen was…we used to install them on used cars at our dealership. One blew apart to pieces when being inflated to get the beads seated and knocked the technician on his back and unconscious from whatever his head hit.

12 years ago-the tire was bad. Read that again guys 12 years ago.....

I run their 200tw N'Fera Sport R tire for track use. Fantastic tires with v. good reviews in the motorsport community. No clue on their street tires but I'll be buying the N' Feras again this year.
