Being anal about my new Miata, and when my Duramax was new in 2005, I have lurked in the background soaking up intel.

My decisions made reguarding my oil and filter:

I wanted to go synthetic in the beginning with my Duramax, but decided to hang with Delo 400 conventional and a Mobil 1 filter. The truck is chipped for HP(claimed 400 HP) but I'm not hard on it.

The Miata is a 2008 and has 4000 miles. I had the dealer change the oil and filter at 2500 miles and plan on changing the oil to PP and a pure one filter at 5000 miles. I love to rev this baby up, it's the most fun I've had vertically.

I value your input on these choices

Looks like you've made some solid choices Bill. Your diesel will enjoy the Delo...it's stout oil that controls wear well. You can't go wrong with your filtration choice either. As for PP it's readily available and goes on sale (that's a good thing). It too has a track record of wear control and also allows you to push away from the 3,000 mile myth with confidence. All and all for a newbie your ears appear to have thoroughly dried.

Now tell us what you are doing on the induction side and don't forget to pamper the rest of your drive train!

On My 2005 Duramax I changed my Allison transmission fluid to B.P. AutranSyn 295. This is essentilly the same stuff as Allison TranSynd transmission fluid, but about 1/2 the cost. (Allison buys from Castrol. Castrol's parent company is B.P. B.P. has the fluid rated TES-295 and sells under it's name also)In the differential I stuck Mobil 1 75-90 in it.

The Miata I have not thought about the rear end or transmission yet. Induction as in electrical....The big thing for the older Miata's is to install Toyota coil over plug (COP), gives a little HP gain. Not yet a mod for my car.
Air intake: With 10.4 compression stock pistons I am a little leary of forced induction.

Since this is a "newbie" section... I just registered last night so I might be asking the wrong question in the wrong place... so sorry if that is the case. I have four used Toyotas-- 1999 Corolla, 2000 Corolla, 2000 Camry, 2001 Camry-- Have always used Castrol 20-50 in summer and 5-30 in winter (Wisconsin) since I bought each car. Faithfully change at 3000 miles---- Should I switch to Mobil 1 0W-40 or similar or is that a waste of money?

to BITOG!

Waste of money in those engines, but I would stick with the 3K mile OCI as these engines were around the time that Toyota had sludging problems. You might also want to do an Auto-RX clean/rinse to clean up anything you might have in those engines!
