New user with BMW 525i E34

Hi everybody, I own a BMW 525i E34 with M50TU engine, when I bought it (3 months ago) I dropped the old oil and put Castrol Magnatec 10w40 in it, have done 2000 miles and no oil burn (I have put 100 % throttle some times). Some smell coming from the exhaust when @ full throttle @ 5th gear and some smoke but the oil level stayed in the upper mark after no less than 600 km of high rpm. Not sure of what could cause that smoke, may be some carbon deposits?

Here in Argentina we have some 100° F (38°C) days, at summer (and 50°F in winter), so I´m planning to possibly change the oil earlier (to clean up), what oil would you recommend? Something 100 % sinthetic, it´s not a daily car (it usually spends 6 days in the garage, and it usually gets constant rpm use with no abuse (and usually no traffic jam), except some uncommon full throttle use

The car has 133000 miles on it, it does not make any lifter nor vanos noise, it pulls nicely.

Is Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w-40 available where you are? If so, you could try that.

Rotella T Synthetic 5w-40 could be another option.

w40 oil is recommended for some high rpm usage?

Not only. It seems that BMW recommends oils that have HT/HS of at least 3.5. Very few Xw-30 oils have HT/HS of at least 3.5. Most of them are Xw-40.

Welcome jbaroli. Any 40 weight thats BMW LL-98/01 approved
will do for your driving needs in hot weather.

I´m between Motul 8100 (5w40) and Mobil 1 5w50, I think I´m going for the Motul...
I don´t want to see anymore that [censored] oil pressure light at cold start (it lasts 5 seconds...)

You'll be fine. I know more than a few people that run 0W-40 all year round on their Porsche's/BMW's. Honestly there is no reason for the 525i to be running 50 weight oil. You could. I've been running 30 weight oil in my E34 for the winter and 40 weight oil for the summer for years now.
