new u-joints -- re-grease before install???

I need to replace a front axle u-joint on my Jeep. I won a pair of Spicer u-joints without grease zerks at the state 4wd convention this spring. So should I re-grease them before installing, or just install them the way they are with the "factory" grease? I've heard it done both ways - what do you guys think?

Definitely re-grease, i always do any ways, you never know
what kind of ____ they used at the factory or if it's dried
out from sitting..

Depends. If they're cheap Autozone junk, then yeah- it'd probably be a good idea. If they're a good and expensive brand... then one would THINK they'd be packed with good quality and properly speced grease.

Look at them if they are greased leave them as is . If they are not greased grease them.

They are Spicer. I looked a bit closer at the piece of paper in the box and saw it was instructions. They said not to grease them, so I guess I won't. Thanks for the replies, though.

If you want them to last, here's what I do in my Jeep. I pick up Quicksilver 2-4-C marine grease with teflon which is water resistant. Just use brake parts cleaner on the new spicers and regrease them with the new marine grease. You will notice significantly more service life from them if you tend to get your Jeep wet often or go mudding.

I agree. Unless you have confidence in the quality of grease that was used in the assembly, right now is the easiest time to get a quality water resistant grease and use it. Any car can accidentally wind up in deep water not to mention driving in a torrential storm. I always re-grease mine when purchasing a new set.
