I'm a little concerned about the spots I'm seeing in the paint. It's a black truck and I bought Zaino's today. I used Dawn soap, as told by Sal, and washed the truck today in a partly cloudy/sunny day. I went over the entire truck with Dawn and after drying it off, I now have these spots that didn't appear to be their before. I've been told it could be acid rain that ate through the clear coat or it could be from the hard water and minerals that built up. I've also been told it could be from the sun baking the water/soap and having it eat through. Not sure what I can do. Any ideas?

buster, without seeing what your talking about it would be just guessing and really not helpful. Take some time and visit the best auto detailers site on the web; www.autopia.org

Use a search to narrow down the replies. Check the click and brag folder, for before and after pics to help determine what you see on yours. Check out the learn button at the top of the page for proper ways to prep your vehicle. Enjoy the site dude. Let us know how it turns out?

sbwr is right about autopia.

it is probably from the dawn drying on the truck. dawn is great for stripping stuff, but not so hot for that "finish" wash.

Thanks for the link. Thats a great site. I'll look into it.

Try clay on one of the spots and get back with me on the results!

Oh, another thing ditch the Dawn for a car wash.

Just use normal car wash at a stronger concentration. Then clay.

Use a quick detail or carwash soap as a lubricant. You will do one of the effected areas and see if the spot goes away. Get back with the results.

Oh, one other thing! Never wash a vehicle in the sun!

3M Swirl/Scratch remover did it and was the ONLY thing that worked. Vinegar didn't even work.

Just put Zaino on. That stuff is great. Unbelievable how smooth it feels. Smells good too.

If vinegar didn't work, clay probably would not either, since they probably were not hard mineral deposits, but damaged paint instead, which is why swirl remover was the only thing that worked.

Washing in the sun usually isn't a problem since the type of spots they leave aren't damaging, and all you have to do is keep the car wet and dry it before it can evaporate.

4dsc,

Washing in the sun is very damaging! It should be avoided for the longevity of the finish, especially with black!

I'm sorry, but I will have to disagree. There are ways of doing things so that you prevent trouble with washing dark colours in the sun. In any case, short of suddenly deluging red hot paint with icy cold water, it shouldn't cause actual damage unless you are doing something wrong.
