New Trader Joe’s opens across the street from existing location. Both staying open.

I'll see your 2 Speedways and raise you 3 Speedways. This is in Dyer, IN (Route 30 and Calumet), the distance from the two end Speedways is about a half mile, and all 3 are open and have been for years.
That's sorta a different situation, but that said, there's a Speedway near my work and on that same road, in a 2.6 mile stretch, there are (2) more. There is also a Sunoco, Shell, Kroger, Thorntons, Murphy, and another Shell in that same stretch.

But they won't open a trader joes near me. Corporate said we are not the type of clientele they want lol.
All retailers do market studies and maybe your area doesn't fit best with them, but no way someone told you you and your neighbors aren't "the type of clientele they want".

We have 2 Circle K convenience/gas stations diagonally across from one another at the same intersection. Both usually busy all the time. Depending on which direction you are going (to or from the beach) whichever one is easier to get in and out of on a busy road is the one to use that day.
We have 2 Sunoco stations across the street from one another. Which reminds me I need to file a complaint with bureau of weights and measures. Pump didn’t dispense what it said. If so my car got 8 mpg. I know my car. Gets closer to 9 (j/k). A woman across from me also was complaining. The clue was extraordinary fill times.

In cases of multiple, proximal gas stations of the same brand, I'd like to know the history of the sites-specifically, if the stations involved went through tank upgrading. If one company in one region had an easy time reoutfitting and made the 'town council' happy, wouldn't that serve to align the stars?

A gas station near me closed and was completely redone from the tanks up. Food service was added, and pump islands were enlarged.
The color hue was green, and the station was called "Leprechaun Gas". Building inspections / food service / new huge tanks, all passed.
After one month, the signs were changed to those of a NJ company called QuickChek. Surprise! They use the same color green.
A QC exec told me they were closing all the rented properties they could and expanding their owned facilities.
There are layers to these onions.
NOTE: At QC, the Breakfast English Muffins are the way to go.

Remember the "National Ethanol Free Gas Station Look-up"? Many were out of date and operating on "month to month" leases.
The ones I tracked down in NJ, NY, PA and VT looked outdated -with ancient pumps and peeling paint-or were already closed.
I bet lousy looking locations of the right size are plums for corporate purchase and renovation.

With Kroger's presently closing 60 stores, it'll be interesting to see what goes into those places.

We just get that with Dunks (Dunkin Donuts) in New England.

Within 5 mins of my home there are 3 locations. I live where people have 1-2 acre lots and town of 5000 ish people.

Trader Joes not having parking is almost a meme. Seems like they do it on purpose to create scarcity to encourage shoppers to buy more if they're lucky enough to get a spot.

I don't play that game, and never shop there. They're cousins with Aldi, which is cheaper, and has ample parking, so I go there instead.

Off topic: On the Maine Turnpike, long ago, there used to be a pedestrian tunnel under the highway between two rest area parking lots so people could go to the single restaurant on the opposite side.
I often wonder if they share the same suppliers for many products.
I like Aldi better overall too. Easier to shop and get in and out fast, multiple self checkouts and overall good quality house brand products.

There is a super busy Wawa near us on Rte. 1 South with another Wawa under construction 300 yards away on Rte. 1 North...Kennett Square PA.

No Aldi on the west coast that I know of.

Trader Joe’s main weakness is their supplier packaging. Some of it is just caca. That said returning stuff is the easiest of ANY retailer I have encountered. Faster that Lowe’s even. No questions. Cash even if you paid with a card.

Anyone remember TJs in the 80s and 90s? I would say world of difference. Probably half the stuff was junk. Now they have just a few pukers.

But yeah super glad they added a second store with a huge parking lot

When did the brothers that owned Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud...one of them bought TJs in that time frame I believe.

They basically said that the people in my area are not educated enough to warrant a store
Sorry, call me skeptical.... Did they tell you this over the phone, by email ? That very well could be the reason or one of, but absolutely no way in the world would that ever be publicly said.
