This is an extension off of the Noisy Serpentine Belt Topic. I think I having something other than the noisy Serpentine Belt. Here is my Question that I also posted under the Noisy Serpentine Belt topic.

My mind is all confused. I actually rushed to work this morning to hear the chirp/squeak before it went away which it does alot. It seems to maybe be coming from the alternator. Could an alternator squeak/chirp and then go away when everything dries out and gets warm? I didn't think alternators chirped or squeaked when bearing or alternator itself were going bad.

I bought a JY 130 alt for my Crown Vic a few years ago. It would squeak until warm. My problem was the mounting was incorrect. I couldn't get it shimmied correctly, but I think that the noise was the same. I replaced it with a rebuilt from AZ and it worked for a while, then started again. I think that I was improperly loading the bearings with bad mounting, causing them to wear out faster.

Therefore, I think that is it possible to get squeaking out of a going bad alt.

Yeah if you look at the Noisy Serpintine belt thread my problem goes away when it is warm outside or take a 30min drive and the truck heats up getting rid of any moisture under the hood. Thats why its hard to find. The alt is the original that the truck was built with so I don't know if that mean anything.
