New Tires

I needed to put FOUR MATCHING tires on my "new" 2001 Honda Accord. Been putting it off. Yesterday, the 2nd best tire on the car, which appeared to have 15k or so miles left, was missing some air. Slow leak, I was allowed to drive 125 miles on it after sitting for 8 hours after discovering the low air pressure. This morning I get up and load it up to about 45 PSI and head to SAM's.

I mull over Michelins and BF Goodrich. They wouldn't let me get the 205/65/15 size because the genius computer chip told them that the car needed 195/65/15. So. Instead of paying $58 per tire for the 205's, I got to pay $65 per tire for the 195's.

I am a Michelin Man, both in Stature and from experience. They are flat out good tires. I decided to save $100 or so and try the BF Goodrich Touring T/A Pro Series.

I am impressed. They ride very well. My car pulled the left pretty hard with the mis-matched tires on it. The front drivers side had a pretty new GoodYear Viva2 or something like that on it. No matter how much air I put in BOTH front tires, it pulled to the GoodYear.

With the four matched BF's, no pulling. Car drives straight and quiet.

I would think 205/60-15 would be the size to shoot for. Lots of choices.

Was happy with the sams club edition BFGs on my cutlass ciera. They were "club ADV"s or somesuch.

They do have a little book they look at, and won't sell you any tire sizes the book/computer doesn't list. I was lucky as my extra 10mm was an optional size.

Couldn't you just pull out the owners manual and show them what Honda recommended? Or what was on the car?

I had a tire store refuse to sell me H rated tires on a car that came with V rated. I said if they could show me where I could drive at those speeds, I'd buy the V rated tires, otherwise, as long as the load ratings were the same or better for the H tires, I would buy those or keep shopping.

Problem #1, getting tires at wal-mart or Sam's...

Those yahoos are so lousy in terms of customer service and know-how... And yet people will wait 4+ hours to get tires done there, when they can be had for the same money and better service down the street at the real tire shop.

At least that is my experience...

As for speed and weight ratings... I wholeheartedly dislike people changing from the manufacturer's spec in order to save a few dimes... That said, I also dislike even more the placement of 'speed rated' and quite pricey tires on vehicles not particularly deservant. H speed rating is more than enough for most any non-sports car; others should be driven more gently and in respect oof what they are, economy cars and family haulers...

I think the Yokohama TRZs are T-rated, but I have used them on HR apps, no problem at all.

Here is why I was at Sam's-

I live in a small town in NE Alabama in which I have a trusted front end mechanic who also sells tires. I would have loved to buy from him, he install them and align the front end all at the same time.

Problem is, I work in NW Atlanta. I really don't trust the Dollar General of tire stores (Kauffman) and the Pep Boys, Big 10 and others look like they are going out of business.

The 195/65/15 is the reccomended Honda tire size.

I was in there and out in less than 45 minutes. Not 4 hours. It would have been closer to 2 hours if I had gone somewhere else.

For $315, I think I got a reasonable deal. Lifetime flat repair, balance, etc. Nationwide warranty, and if there's not a Sam's nearby, Wal-Mart will fix the flat.

No, I'm not a big fan of either, but convenience counts sometime.

should of bought them online liek at discount tires. then take to a local tire shop and have them mounted. no muss no fuss.

places liek that are looking at the liability aspect. if they sold you a tire that their computers said shouldnt be on that car. then the tire fails or whatever. then that person would sue them for selling them the wrong tire for their vehicle. we live in a sue happy world unfortunately.

Not sure I catch your drift. You were expecting to compensate for a different size tire by putting more air in it?

Quattro.

Nobody said anything about two different tire sizes. All four tires might not have matched, but they were the same size.

I was trying to make sure one tire was not low on air, WHICH WILL MAKE IT PULL TO THAT SIDE.
