My father in law brought over his GORGEOUS new Mustang today. He did the online thing and got the incredible super dark red metal flake paint (now discontinued) in a beautiful convertible with the V6.

Seems like a real smooth runner with tons of pep. Nifty GT package gives him the dual pipes and wheels and tires just like the V8, but with 31 mpg!!!

I am impressed with the car. Seems like a good value.

The base Mustang sure has come a long way since the 80s! Back then the base model had the bulletproof but super slow 2.3L 4 cylinder engine in it, I think it initially only made about 88hp! It's especially impressive how Ford has managed to squeeze over 300hp from this engine while still getting great gas mileage, and on regular 87 octane fuel too! I bet this new engine gets better gas mileage than that 2.3L 4 banger too!

I know people that felt that way in the 80s, but probably not anymore. With the amount of power this V6 is making, you honestly don't need the V8 unless you're doing a lot of drag racing.

GT package... Lol... Funny bc we were talking about Overkill/his car being a poser. But it sounds to me like a package trying to make a v6 look like a GT might be a better definition.

All the same, awesome car, color and I'm sure the vert is timely for a lot of enjoyable driving from now through at least thanksgiving. Please post pics for us to see!

No one really needs a V8 in a car its more a want or desire.

If you've got a set, you would agree everyone needs a V-8.
A GT poser-you've got to be kidding. I would like to see the color though-sounds nice.
You can justify a 6 all day loooong, but it's not, and never will be, an 8

Hey guys, he's over 70 and it's plenty for him.

And I'm sorry, but it's much more a GT than a sports car. Very luxuriously appointed!

Over 70? Way past a mid-life crisis! LOL! Kidding with ya!

My wife, age 54, wanted a Mustang but is now leaning towards a Camaro..

Even closer now to getting either one because she has no need for the Explorer now that she doesn't have to haul grandkids anymore.

If I were to buy a car...it would be a Mustang. Love the looks!

I rented a V-6 Mustang in 2007 when my Dakota was in the shop. Truth be told, it was more than enough. That doesn't mean I wouldn't get a V-8 if I bought one, but as has been laid out already, nowdays, a V-8 is more "want" than "need".

I believe the newer V-6 makes FAR more power than the old 4.0L. 210HP compared to 305HP.

If I ever bought a Mustang, I personally wouldn't bother with the V8.

Rogue, you are correct, the new V6 will run with most any V8 of the past 20 years, and is a blast to row through the gears at 7000 RPM.

Steve, the GT is a V8. If he got an upscale V6, it is the V6 Premium and maybe also has the Pony Pkg. No need to "pose" as anything. I gladly tell anybody it is a V6. My car gets the same mileage as my 4 cyl. Accord coupe got.

One guy on a Mustang forum asked in a fuel mileage thread "yeah, but who buys a Mustang for the mileage?" I told him "ME". I got the car BECAUSE of the mileage first, and power of the new Ford V6. Now happily averaging 32MPG on roadtrips without direct injection, and/or forced induction....not to mention a MUCH smoother ride and quiet cabin, compared to a Honda.

Another nice thing with the V6 is that it can run on 87 octane, while the V8 now requires premium (which is something fairly new, it wasn't that long ago that you could run 87 octane in the V8 also)
