New SK impact set

I was looking at the HF ones when in store, but wanted something American. So I bought the SK set #4053, which is a 30-pc regular and deep metric impact set.

Only issue with it is that the 13mm socket is laser engraved 13mm, but is imprinted as 8mm, and is indeed an 8mm socket.

I contacted Amazon to rectify the situation. They sell the single socket as part number 34063, priced at $10.95 (Ill bet that McMaster sells a Proto impact socket for around $6), so I contacted them and requested that they just send me the socket as a replacement. For some silly reason they couldnt, and so instead they gave me a 20% credit. Way above and beyond what they needed to do -surprising really, they didnt even want the picture that I took of it. Why they couldnt send me the $11 socket, but could credit me a good deal more is beyond me...

Anyway, good looking set.

Seriously, are those a mix of 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive?

Edit, nope, all 1/2". Weird, the 10mm deep doesn't look like it "has it in it."

Contact SK and I'm pretty sure they'll send you the socket you need for free. SK has really good customer service, from my experience.

Sweet! I really like SK tools. Have an SK 3/8 ratchet from the 80's that is better than anything new.

Well priced, and unlike the more Manly fanboy tool brands, caters to the closet social outcast via Amazon Prime.

Defect? It is laser engraved to be 13mm, thus sorted that way. An 8mm socket improperly sorted, thus got marked wrong and placed into a set. Service after the sale is how Ill judge SK. Ill keep the thread posted. Its a perfectly nice 8mm socket.

Far different from a 13mm socket being 13.2mm, or an impact socket being sold for HD impact use yet using Cr-V alloys. Or there being excess metal flashing inside the socket, inconsistent coatings, etc.

And at least someone in IL has a job.

One way or the other, it looks like you're going to end up with an extra 8mm socket. 8mm sockets are pretty easy to lose and also pretty easy to wear out so it's good to have a spare.

Honestly I cant imagine pummeling an 8mm fastener with a 1/2" impact, but Ive got plenty to learn!!

Hammering away with an impact wrench isn't it's only use. The wide base and the finish mean that you can get a lot more grip on that socket with two greasy fingertips than you can on a 1/4" chrome 8mm.

You aren't going to crack the socket you spin with two greasy fingertips, but which socket is going to try to disappear into the deep dark nether regions of your car's chassis?

Red tape !
It's much easier for Customer Service to credit your account for partial defect of the item they sell. Paper work to ship you just a 13mm socket without charge is much more complicated.

They rather lost some bucks than creating a paper work nightmare for accounting/finance department.

Do the sockets click in? I could imagine a thin layer of "something soft" going well in the closed-case sandwich to keep rattling down, if that's a concern.
