I saw days ago on their web site those new oils.

I use 5w30w ASL, I'm wondering if with this new ASL 5w30w they changed the formulation.
Before they had only one signature oil the 0w-30 that was even more expensive, for sure they changed the formulation of that one because the TBN went down and is only for 25k miles and not for 35k miles as before.

Yes. The formulation has changed. Still looks good to me. Their marketing for the 0w30 finally came back to earth IMO. 35k is just too long for PCMO and the way base-stock is going up they probably had to cut back a bit so they wouldn't have to raise their prices too much.

^+1. That seems to be on the right track. I use their 0w-30 and it lowered some in price with this redone lineup of SSO(though the newly incorporated oils went up). I'm going to run the new one out to 7,500 and sample with goals of at least 10,000 miles.

I was disappointed in the TBN dropping some, but we'll see.

Well those oils now they are certified GF-5.

Maybe they have more cleaning properties.

This really sucks!

I have gradually worked up to a 40,000 mile OCI with SSO, getting a UOA with each oil change to make sure I wasn't pushing it too far. Now I'm going to have to back off my OCI or risk trashing my engine. I'm going to have to start all over with a new oil.

To me, the robust TBN of SSO was it's best attribute. Now I'm not so sure that it's worth going with AZO......

It would have been nice to know this in advance. I could have gotten a nice stash accumulated which could have lasted for years.

I look at it this way, the mile reduction of SSO was a smart move. Maybe they realized 35,000 miles was just too much. It seems a few of us are now disappointed with the recent changes of our favorite oil.

^We'll see. I don't like the TBN drop either...

Funny, I made an Amsoil purchase and received the AZO but also received an EaO20. Not the new 15,000 mile filter, but it was put in a box for the new one, go figure.

I got the oil 5w30.

On the label is written " Fortified with detergents that exceed dexos1"

So more cleaning power.

I don't understand what you're worried about...?

I also have worked my way up to 10k OCIs with SSO in my 07 Civic with results suggesting extended use.

I now have a stash of AZO and would love to compare the 2 formulas. I'm sure AZO simply can not be THAT much worse then the previous blend so i'm not worried at all.

If your driving conditions are such that you have gone 40k with SSO I would run AZO for 30k and sample to see if it can also make it to 40k as well.

Can't really blame Amsoil for the new blend. I suspect this change will happen every so often when new standards are released so we all just have to get used to it.
