New Rural King Battery

M1Accord's Fit came with the tiny 151R battery (340CC), not the larger 51R (500 CCA) battery. My suggestion was to go to the larger 51R battery which was OEM on the Fits built in Japan. I've never seen the tiny 151R battery at any WalMart and it is often more expensive than a comparable grade 51R size.
I did google it and see that you are right.. Did not know that the 51r battery was smaller years ago. My 21 HRV uses the 51r ...larger size and I wish that you could change it to a more powerful battery but they wont fit in the HRV. When I had my 07 Accord with the 51r there was a kit to switch to the larger battery used for the ones used with the v6...

I had a walmart value battery - 24F - and it was fine. There $70 now though, so not as great. Got about 2 years out of it before it dropped to a level I found unacceptable. However it only had 1 year replacement, no 60 months as the OP indicated. So 60 months pro rated for a $55 battery is pretty awesome if that's the case.

I would do the Rural King one for $55 instead if I had a Rural King anywhere near here.

You should check out post #54 in this Honda HRV forum thread where the owner provides a few options to upgrade the stock 51R battery in his 2020 HRV to a more stout Group 56R or 124R battery.

Honda HR-V Battery Upgrade Options

Purchased a new battery for the wife’s Rav4 after this cold snap. I went with a Rural King brand. Group 35, 12 month free replacement 60 month limited warranty, Manufactured 11/23, Made in USA. Looks great so far.

The most important part… $55!

I have used RK batteries over a decade now and have had great success. I have yet to take one back or ne go bad but I have battery tenders that I switch for most of the machinery that I use. You cannot beat the price.

Wish they had more locations, nearest one is 4 hours away. Tractor Supply has that sector wrapped up around here anyway, even if RK moved into the area it would be like how Lowes and HD have stores across the street from each other.

A lot more expensive and isn’t good at holding charge even new. OEM battery died in 3.5 years svd needed regular jump start the last 1.5 year. AutoZone replacement has been good for 8+ years now.

Fit needs to have two metal brackets cut to fit 51R since 2011.

Yeah, they’re regional for sure. Not sure if you’ve ever been in one but RK is like TSC, but probably 10x larger, 10-30% lower prices, and has guns. If given the choice I would choose it over TSC every time. TSC does well with the suburban crowd I think.

Exide is just a brand name these days. About 3 years ago it ceased to exist as a manufacturing entity. The Exide brand is now manufactured in the USA by Stryten Energy.
The new/one world order manufacturer's quality/reputation message to consumers feels like - take it or leave it, we don't care. You don't buy it someone else will.

That's what happens when all the good, smaller manufacturers get bought out by the bigger, junk producing (but more profitable) ones! I'm afraid it will happen to East Penn one of these days...

For $55. they are a solid deal and are worth taking a gamble on.
With the warranty, I'd go for one over the WM value battery.
And I'm not a fan of the Exide/Stryten battery.
However it is without a doubt, the best value in the budget battery competition.
However with the supply chain the way it is, it is hard to tell what you will get anywhere, at any time.
Last time I was at RK, I was at a store that I don't normally frequent.
I went over to the batts to look at one for Bubba Truck, as the one presently in it is getting aged.
Looked at the Group 58's they had in stock, judging from the look of them, they looked more like a Clarios product than anything from the Exide line.

Like Walmart, they probably source the batteries regionally to different stores depending on which supplier has a closer factory.

I use them in ally stuff. They now have a 4 year replacement battery. That's better than Walmart. Those are not 55 dollars.

Of course for any under $100 battery , I imagine you could take a chance on many brands and it would work out ok for you. I got an idea if did much research on several battery brands we may be disappointed and find out many (different names/brands) may even come from the same place!? It has happened to us with some products....

This type thing is exactly what bothers me these days , especially for any major or expensive products. I find myself not feeling right unless we do all kind of research to find out what we can about potential products. We have to face the fact that depending on where things come from these days , a consumer may be paying a premium we were once ok with in past based on a quality that is no longer there.

Bottom line is it will do what is required.
On top of that, the retailer is willing to put a decent warranty on it.
Perfect battery for someone who is down on their luck, has a car that they are getting rid of soon, or who is just thrifty.
I've had a mix of all kind of batteries. I've had cheap ones that have gone beyond minimal expectations, and I have had some expensive ones that were total disappointments. It's luck of the draw sometimes.
If it meets ones needs, go for it. They could do a whole lot worse.

I have RK group 35 batteries in my 1963 Cadillac and in my 2003 Corolla. Both have been good so far… about 1.5 years on them. The group 35 is a little weak for the ‘63, but I have trouble getting the supposedly fitting 24F to fit. The original battery was pretty narrow and longer.
