New rotor break-in?

I always follow the Hawk procedure...

HAWK

After installing new pads make 6 to 10 stops from approximately 35 mph with moderate pressure. Make an additional two to three hard stops from approximately 40 to 45 mph. Do not allow the vehicle to come to a complete stop.When completed with this process, park the vehicle and allow the brakes to cool completely before driving on them again. Do not engage the parking brake until after this cooling process is compete.

I don't know about you guys, but w/new pads/rotors I'm still goin' to run up to 50 mph, brake steady and deliberate 5 times, cool down, and go 5 more.

When I got all new pads and rotors for my Corvette a year ago, I followed a pretty severe break in procedure. I warmed them up first with a few medium stops, and then after that I did ten extremely hard stops in a row from about 50mph. When I was done I made sure not to come to a complete stop for at least 15min, to fully cool off the brakes (since they were smokin hot!). When I was done, the rotors had a blue tint on them (this is good)

This procedure virtually eliminates any chance of brake squeal.

OK guys, installed the new rotors and pads this past weekend. Per the Akebono break-in procedure on tirerack, I didn't aggressively break them in. I did a few hard stops from 50+ and then let them cool down without the parking brake.

So, original rotors and year old pads off (same Akebono pads) and new Brembo rotors and pads on. Only about 100 miles on them so far so we'll see how they do after a couple hundred more.

At first after I got the Akebono pads installed, they required much more pedal pressure. I was concerned, how could such expensive pads not stop as well as the old worn-down pads I took off?

But after a few hundred miles they were working great. And now, with more than 1000 miles on them, I think they are fantastic.

I went with ATE solid rotors -- good quality and not expensive.
