In need of a new refrigerator,my wife is wanting a bottom freezer model. They look like a hassle to me.

Anyone liking thier bottom freezer model?

I have bottom freezer for about 5 years replaced the top freezer that lasted about 9 years. I like it better than top freezer, the freezer has more capacity and use less power and it seems to run quieter.

I general bottom freezer is more expensive, but I bought it when there was some rebates from power companies in So Cal so I paid less than $600 for 25 cf Whirpool.

The bottom freezer and double doors with water and ice dispensing is the only fridge I would buy.

But I'm just a college student, lol... 3.1 cu ft mini fridge half full of beer works great for me.

Bottom freezer seems weird to me. But you don't have to worry about something falling on your foot when you open the door, then you bend down to pick it up and hit your head on the open door when you try to stand back up.

bottom freezers arent as efficient. cold air falls so the fridge wil be constantly effecting the temp of the freezer.

Is it fair to say your wife will be using it 60, 70, 80, 90% (pick your percentage) of the time? Let her have what she wants. But you might mention that refrigerators are usually not changed for what....... 10, 15, 20 years?

We got a bottom freezer, double door fridge about 4 years ago. Dramatically better than those awful narrow side by sides (which it replaced) and I also prefer it to the top freezer types. You go into the fridge more often than the freezer so why not have it more at eye level?

It has an ice maker in the freezer section but we elected not to go for the dispenser. It takes up a lot of room in the fridge section and door. Grabbing ice from the freezer and a Brita pitcher take care of that need.

As to efficiency, I think any differences are marginal. The Energy Star sticker on ours (a GE) said it would use something like $50 a year.

Yep like the bottom freezer. Think about what your opening most. Nice having the refiridge up at eye level. Want a frozen 2lb rib-eye steak on your feet?

I love our bottom freezer refrigerator. It's quiet, energy efficient and puts the most commonly used stuff up where I can get it easily.

The freezer has a large, slide out basket that makes it very easy to get things out.

I too am 6'3" but I prefer the bottom freezer. I believe we all use the refrigerator portion much more often than the freezer. With the fridge at waist height I don't have to bend over to get a beer out.

My wife has her heart on purchasing a bottom freezer unit when the one we now have goes kaput. It's a GE side by side, with a water and ice dispenser in the freezer door.

It's going on 15 years old and the only problem I have had is that the ice maker went south three years ago and I replaced that.

IMO bottom freezer makes more sense. You're in the refrigerator portion far more often and it's more convenient to be at waist-level. Bending over all the time with the fridge seems stupid.

I normally do the grocery shopping, and on top of that, about 90% of the cooking.

?

Wouldn't you want the coldest air to drop into the freezer vs the frozen air dropping into the fridge?
