Pretty good improvement! Well, if this "illustraton" is to be believed.

mid 80s mitsubishi Colt was advertised as "wedge with egg" aerodynamics..it sort of made sense at the time.

This Prius emphasises both the wedge and the egg, without delineation.

I certainly don't know for sure, but I'm going to bet that the finally released car will look much more conventional (at least as far as the term "conventional" might be used in the Prius context...). This is about the fourth Prius concept I've seen pop up in various places on the internet. Remember, Toyota will want to keep the car practical as well as very efficient. I doubt it will show up with different size tires front vs rear, or any other highly exotic, cost-boosting features.

The effect is called foreshortening. If you hold one hand near your face and stretch the other arm out, the [censored] hand will look smaller than the one that's nearer to your face. The rear tire is [censored] than the front tire from where the picture was taken (or CGI in this case). A wide angle lens will emphasize the foreshortening, a tele lens will de-emphasize ("flatten out") it. Look up "vanishing point" and "foreshortening" to learn more. I can't believe I'm explaining this.
