Incredible gift, very pricey optics though! I am in the market for a scope as well, looking at the 200-300 range however. Congrats!

Good light gathering optics. Will let you "reach out and touch something" without issue.

That's my expectation. I had a higher mag VX3 on my old .308 and was really happy with it. This scope, despite actually costing me less, is an upgrade.

I'm more surprised how clear it is relative to the much higher dollar scope I have on my .338LM however.

The smart way is to use Burris Signature Rings you don't make up your expensive scopes with ring marks.
