I have a bought new '78-9 Jonsered midsize chainsaw that has given me perfect service over the years= some spark plugs, a couple of bars and 4-5 chains. Back then, these Euro saws were most all very well made and built for the commercial world. We recently had a 'blow down' storm and I went through 10-12 tanks and finally had a failure with a vib mount and noted that this saw will have some needs going forward.. So I'm looking on the net for parts/spares or maybe a parts saw when I found my same saw locally listed on Ebay. I was able to buy it reasonably and while a tad older than mine, was little used and in very, very good condition. I put on a new bar/chain and am now covered for all the years I'll be able to carry on. I do like owning and keeping 'the good old stuff' going.

Well, you could get a [censored]-saw those days too, and a champ today. But I agree, I own two oldies that I have refitted worn out stuff like diaphragms, rubber parts and such.
One Husqvarna 140R busher from late 70s/early 80s and one Husqvarna 254 chainsaw. Tough, powerful, fast and all security stuff was in place at that time too!!
Jonsered, Husqvarna, all Swedes, and if you get the pro stuff it will be just as tough today as before!! Suppose there are brands like Stihl, but the Swedes rule...

My go-to saw is a 1981 Husqvarna 285 with a 28" bar.

Agreed, I love older saws. My main saw is a 1995 Makita 5200i with a bit shorter bar. The thing screams.

All you have to do is pick them up and see how heavy the old saws are. Last year I brought two old saws back to life my Grandpa bought in 1973. A Homelite XL923 (24 INCH) and a McCulloch Mini Mac 1. A week ago I broke the pull rope on the mini mac, not looking forward to fixing that.
I own a 1984 Jonsereds 630 and 1983 Jonsereds 670. Both are tough, reliable, strong, fast cutting and HEAVY. Back in the day I could throw those thing around with impunity. Thirty years later however, not so.
Unless I have some seriously big trees to deal with, I go to my little Echo CS346 that I bought new in 2007. Great little saw. I'm always impressed with what it can do.
