Theory: Valvoline Restore and Protect and this are simply the result of meeting API SQ but with expanded marketing claims to match their abilities.

IMO R&P is an entirely different animal removing deposits completely.
But Mobil 1 Advanced Clean could 100% be the SQ version of EP. In fact EP has the same exact claims but aren’t well marketed.

It was a good oil but it just didn’t have a big enough market. The Walmart crowd isn’t interested in doing extended intervals and they don’t wanna pay $49 a jug either.
If they had priced it at $30 and made it the replacement for EP they might have had better success
I think thats what they did, they bumped EP from 15k to 20k, and discontinued Annual

Respectfully, that’s a marketing video and should be taken with a grain of salt whether people want to hear it or not.
We don't know yet. It might be replacement for EP.
EP is claimed to be good for 20K for a long time.
EP already says on the back:
"Helps remove sludge in one oil change."
Two things can be true at the same time. It's marketing. But the claims are true. Are you claiming they fabricated the results?

Valvoline Restore and Protect actually removes piston ring deposits, SQ is just a small incremental improvement over SP in the piston cleanliness requirements department, it requires nothing near a spotlessly clean piston, let alone actual clean-up of deposits.
At the time when Annual just came out, EP was only 15k mile on the sticker.

Some people still swear Seafoam is the best injector, valve, and combustion chamber cleaner you can use though the scientific data proves it's not. People are going to knock Valvoline Restore and Protect with no data to substantiate their beliefs that companies just lie for profit.
So far all the results we have seen here on this forum indicate cleaning ability that is far beyond SQ standard. SQ limits how much "dirt" oil can leave behind, where as Valvoline Restore and Protect is not a low deposit forming oil, but deposit cleaning oil (or negative deposit forming)
PS: @OVERKILL explained that much better
Valvoline Restore and Protect came out when API SP was the most recent oil standard - January 2024.

And that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have met the SQ standard early. The criteria for SQ was known the manufacturers by then.

What Valvoline Restore and Protect is doing is well, WELL beyond the scope of what's required for SQ. It's like a .50BMG being able to kill a gopher, yes, it can, but that wasn't factored into the round's development.
