Mobil-1 10W30, 3364 miles, 1998 Volvo T5 turbo
Oil changed every 5000 miles with Mobil-1 since the car was new. Since I've gone from highway driving to mostly short distance driving, I thought I'd switch to 3333 mile oil change intervals. Plus the oil "looked" dirty after almost a year.

What was the viscosity on your previous UOA (the one with 5300 miles on the oil)? Judging by Blackstone's comment, it was also out of grade. Some M1 grades get beat up by turbo engines pretty quickly and shear out of grade, so maybe this is one of them.
I also don't understand Blackstone's comment when they say "viscosity was in the 5w30-grade range rather than the 10w30". Do they use different allowable ranges for these two grades, despite the fact that both of these grades should have similar viscosity at 210F???
I'm also surprised they flaggeed 13 ppm of silicon. I mean, it's not perfect, but come on.

This is just another example of why Blackstone should put a disclaimer on their comments: "For entertainment purposes only."
The only way a comment like this would make sense is if they tested the vis at both 40C and 100C and compute the viscosity index. Then they could say with some certainty if the oil is more like 10w30 vs 5w30. There is, however, no evidence that I've seen that Blackstone does this, so the comment makes no sense.

Also VI will NOT all the time corolate with a 0w or 5w.
Low end temp is a wierd thing only way for sure it to run it

57.7 -- and I know it's 10W30 Mobil 1 (green top box) 'cause I hand it to the guys and wait around for the oil change.
I've "heard" elsewhere that Mobil 1 tends to run on the light side. 5W30 is also recommended by Volvo in most of our local temperature range so it didn't really bother me. Most people who have run into problems with the turbos seem to have used dino-juice.
No TBN, I just asked for the $22.50 regular analysis.
As for the silicon, I went from marathon commuting to occcasional short runs out to the grocery store and for ice cream. The oil looked filthy, that's why I changed it. I will take a look at the intake plumbing though.
I recently purchased my first Volvo from a Dr. in S.C. It's an old 90 244 with 120K on it. No leaks, no consumption,and clean as a pin. I love that old thing and i'm not sure why. The redblock was impressive in the durability dept.

The 240s have attained cult-car status and are getting harder and harder to find in nice condition with (relatively) low mileage. Volvo seats are about the best there are, there is real headroom in the rear seat and the corners are square so you can tell where you are when parking.
Good luck, 120k is "barely broken in" for a Volvo red motor from everything I've heard!
I have three 1991 240 with 205000,with newer engine last guy replaced it.1993 940 turbo with 157000 wife drives this,and a 1989 240 with 265000 my son drives this,I do all my work myself.The last car was One owner and I payed 300 bucks for it.
