I did some search and find out rekeys is much cheaper then buying a brand new lock.

How much do you guy think lock smith charge for rekey?

I haven't call around yet, might ask you guy here first.

Just replace the hardware. You can order what you want online and have it keyed alike. Alternative is find a real locksmith that has counter service and remove everything and take it to them to be rekeyed.

I've done this several times now. That way you know everything fits, everything works and I get it all keyed alike. I book a couple of days ahead, so he's waiting for me and they get done on the spot while I have someone at home minding the lockless house.

We have a double key deadbolt (keyed on both sides) and it was $35 a lock (so that was two locks). $70 plus the service call if I did not remove and bring the hardware to the locksmith. New Schlage double key was $35. Couldn’t justify the locksmith at that price.

I have cheap Schlage Quickset or something. The kit of parts to redo the tumblers was cheap. I tried to buy all the same code, but couldn’t, so I reset to the same “code”.

If you can remove the lock sets from the doors, some of the larger Home Depot stores have a locksmith re-keying service that can be done while you wait in the store. I had three locksets re-keyed in 2020 for ~$7 each. Call you local Home Depot store(s) to see if they offer this very affordable service. I seem to recall that they can only re-key locksets manufactured by Kwikset, Schlage and Yale. I believe that Ace Hardware also offers re-keying services, but at a higher price.

I've done this twice. Most recent was when I sold a car and stupidly left a house key on one of the the key rings.

The local Ace Hardware store had a guy at the time who was really good. I did the deadbolts on Friday after work and left the house secured by the handsets. I took the handsets in first thing the next day. They charged $10 per cylinder.

If you have Schlag, they have re-keyed tumblers at Menards, but I found I needed a more advanced kit with more Tumblr heights that I got on Amazon and I can re-key any slags with ease for probably $25

Some lock sets can get loose from wear over time. If they have some age on them, new lock sets may be the better option long term.
