New Holland tractor questions

6300 hours is fine on the engine if maintained well. But a dual stage clutch may be worn out. That involves splitting the tractor which is not a small job. If the clutch is new or recent, I wouldn't worry about it.

It will pull a good sized mower and any other implement (plow, harrow, seeder, etc) that you need to plant and maintain the prairie. So its not necessarily a bad choice. Just need to know what your are getting into. Obviously a new tractor will be reliable and you can buy the implements with it.

I asked the seller some more questions about the tractor. There isn't any maintenance records and it still had the original clutch. Based on what has been said about a clutch change, I decided to pass on the tractor / mower combo. Though that batwing mower setup would have been nice to have. Owner won't separate and without a tractor first, I wouldn't buy just the mower.

Any wiggle room on the price? If the clutch is original and it behaves as it should, it’s reasonable that the owner wouldn’t replace it.

At least you know it’s original too and wasn’t done by Bob down the road who turns wrenches on the side.

Can't compare to a car !
6300 hours on a tractor is consider to be near middle of life.
When I first started my current job, I had a customer come looking for an engine overhaul kit for his tractor. He said it ran just fine, but had 27000 hours on it and he was expecting it to go sooner than later. He was in the other day and I asked him if he wanted that quote updated and he said it has somewhere around 32000 now and still runs fine, nearly 13 years later.
