What's up folks?

I could use a reccomendation for oil in my car. I've
been using Red-Line 10w30 and a Wix filter, but I
wonder if I could do better.

My car is an 1987 Chevy Z-28 with a tuned-port 5.0
and 5-speed. The car is a cream-puff bought from
older folks who pampered it. I bought it for a
daily driver (it gets 19-20mpg versus my truck at
6-7mpg). I drive 12 miles each day to work in the
city, but 7 of those miles are at 55mph. It gets
pretty hot, with many months of the year over 100
degrees. I drive a little hard, but change my
oils fanatically. The car does blow oil through
the valve seals at start-up as do many GM products
from the late '70's to the early '90's, but the
rings are plenty tight. I've read that Baldwin
Endurance brand filters are great, but can't seem
to find the right one for my car, even doing the
interchange....I welcome any and all suggestions.

You must be kidding, right?

If you can afford to stay with RedLine by any means do it.
But I would rather switch to Red Line 5w30. Other than that you're doing just fine.

if you could afford redline, then u may try amsoil 0-30w series 2ooo, with amsoil filter, oversize if it fits, best thing out there in my opinon. dont let the 0-30w concern u, its just a number hahahah jp. u know what we say about new guys we call them fng f-en new guy, jp again

How can I not afford it? Oil is cheap by comparison
to a new engine....

I do like Amsoil, and have used it for years when
I lived in Phoenix, but the dealers in Tucson are
flaky at best.....at least the ones I've attempted
to deal with. I'd prefer not to use the internet
to buy oil....

I love to use this site to buy oil. The price of the oil is usually less even with shipping, because you don't paying state taxes, the overall delivered price is less than buying locally. Plus it's so da*m convenient and I don't have to drive all over kingdom come at $3++++/gallon looking for the oil I want. Give our site sponsers a "ring". They're all really reputable and will save you $$$$$ plus you'll support this great site

Hiya Winston! I've been changing at 3,000. I know
it's overkill, but that's how I am. BTW, I just
happened into 14 AC Delco PF35L (synthetic element)
oil filters for $26.32! I used to pay almost $10
each for these.....

Those AC Delco filters are a great buy. Are you runing the H3** out of that camero? I know redline does not like extended drains but 3K? Each is his own I guess.

It is thinner during the cold start-up and thicker when hot.

My advise after your next oil change. Do an UOA see how the redline holds up then determend your OCI from there. It will also determine if there are any more engine problems. Either way its money in the bank.

I'll stick with my current OCI program, but I don't
think an UOA will tell me what weight I should run.

FWIW, I bought 10w40 for my upcoming OC this weekend
