New Generator

Due to the number of power outages we recently experienced, in addition to us having a sump pump that prevents our basement from flooding, I purchased a Champion generator yesterday. The generator has two conventional 20A, 120 volt receptacles, a 30A three-prong twist-lock plug (120V) and a 30A four-prong twist-lock plug (120V). The maximum amount of watts I can get out of the conventional 120 outlets is 2400 (the generator produces a maximum of 3,500 watts continuous). Since I want to get the most use out of the generator, I'm going to buy one of the twist-lock plugs with a 25' or so extension cord with a conventional quad box on the other end. I found one on Amazon but the price is $106 which seems a bit expensive to me (but I haven't found anything cheaper). Any of the BITOG members that have generators, do you have any 3 or 4 prong extension cord recommendations for me?

My brother has a Champion with a 220 volt output. That's the ticket.

120V was satisfactory for me just to run the things that require 120V in an emergency situation (oil burner, sump pumps, etc.)

You should be able to build your own twist lock power strip for way less than $100. Look around your Lowes.

Go to a local electrical supply shop and get like a 10/3 or 12/3 wire extension cord and hook it up yourself. The twist plug will come apart and you can hook the wires up yourself. Get the exact amount of wire you need, anything longer will lose efficiency.

Thanks for the last two replies. I am actually fairly handy around the house but for whatever reason didn't think of building my own. I'll let you know what the cost comes to.
