Yeah, it’s too bad you can’t just run Ubuntu on a Mac. I loved my MacBook Air M4 (besides the lack of a numpad) and their unified memory architecture is awesome for local AI but MacOS was a deal breaker.

It's not a Ubuntu base, but Asahi Linux does just that.

You can still get NVMe drives, but wow are they expensive! I bought a 8TB Samsung 9100 about 6 months ago for $1000, now they are $2300!

Exactly, its not a matter of availability, its the cost per unit.

The whole marketing plan for Ferrari is being exclusive. Having a lot of money does not even guarantee you can buy a new one (see what Jay Leno says about them), you need to be a previous owner. I cannot ever see the need to own one, I could afford one if I really wanted it. But I would never buy from a company that has a business model like that and it would be a waste of some hard earned money.

Fair enough but presumably if someone can afford the HP Ferrari AI PC that can't do any AI work, they can afford that haha.

Definitely an intriguing project but unfortunately the majority of my workflow is built around Ubuntu. I standardized on it for the easiest support for the widest variety of hardware support.

I mean despite pricing going up due to AI chip demand you can still easily get a 4TB NVMe SSD. Many larger laptops have two NVMe slots so that’s 8TB of SSD storage. Do you really need more for a laptop? I don’t see any use case for a rotational hard drive anymore.

Not sure but I've seen posted that one or the other is better. If you look back to forum posts on various computerl forums I've seen physical hard drives are better even as recently as 2020. Especially when not used for extended time. Over the last three-four years I've seen and read forum posts that anything newer than 2021 ssd is the way to go.

Better in what sense? Do you generally leave your computer off for 3+ years at a time? mine are lucky if they’re ever turned off!
