Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm sure all the other brands will do just fine. It's good to see extended drains promoted by a large oil company. Give Amsoil credit their.

I look at it this way...I change my oil---even with the Elixer--at 5000 or 6 months, so if we apply that to M1 at say 4.95/qt it would cost me $9.90 a year times sump size plus the cost of two filters. If, and I consider it a big IF, I could talk myself into 15,000 or one year, I'd be saving decent money even at $7.50 a quart and one filter.

He He , I could not resist . I do make effort to not say that type thing about the green oil that is working well in many engines though .

Hey , maybe an entire new Syntec line up from 0w-20 , 5w30 , 0w30 , 10w30 and 5w-40 built the same way as the 0w30 . Would be a great start but what about Pennzoil , Valvoline ect ect . Will they get into longer drain capable oils ?

Speaking of "green" oil. I once did a paper on the theoretical net energy savings if all PVEO's went to 7,500 and 10,000 mile ODI's... The savings were were incredible. Then when one factors in the used oil eliminated, the cost of processing the used oil, the affect of used oil on the environment, etc. Huge potential impact I hope this begins an industry trend.. We would all benefit.

Seems obvious the US consumer requires a gentle nudge toward extended drains, and this might be Mobil's way of drawing attention to it's products. Does the average guy on the street or even hardcore M1 Junkie know what MB 229.3 or VW 503.01 really is anyway? Now it is spelled-out for them, blah- 15,000 miles. There should also be a reminder on the label to top-off during the extended drains...with Mobil 1 XD of course. used oil analysis should prove interesting, verses GC.
Yes, Mobil gives the best bang- DCO, Delvac 1300S, 0w-40, T&S. I consider myself a Castrol guy from their position as a racing sponsor and personal endorsments, but other than GC I use Mobil products.

PS, a lil visc range info would be nice. Is extended drain to be the exclusive domain of 0w oils???

Amsoil beat Mobil to the punch but failed to execute as far as the strengh of the oils vs. price and the fact that most 'mercans like to buy stuff on sale at stores and don't like paying over $5/qt for oil.

But let's see how good these Mobil oils are first......and how many people buy them.

I do like the fact that Mobil must be reading BiTOG.

Got to have faith Amsoil got no choice but to come out with a better oil in what is to follow. Maybe this is a good thing, keep up with the market and the consumer wins... Better Products for the consumer to choice from!!

All I can say about this new oil is: Awww, Crap! Thanks a lot, Exxon Mobil, you just took away my excuse to spend two hours in the garage every 5k miles.

Now I've got to come up with some entirely new reason why I can't spend my Saturdays shopping with my wife.

Oh, wait; I could tell her that this new oil needs to be SAMPLED every 5k...yeah, that's it.

Seriously though, if these new oils live up to their claims, it seems like a win/win for almost all involved.....except Amsoil. But those folks at Amsoil are very smart; they'll come up with something new for everyone to drool over.

Maybe they'll sell the 5 quart jug with a used oil analysis sample container (prepaid of course) for about $25.00 or so?????????

I'm predicting that the new M1 long drain oils will flop. I don't know anybody that uses Mobil 1 for it's extended drain capability. In fact, most of the Mobil 1 users that I know still change at 3,000 to 5,000 mile intervals even though their owners manual recommends longer intervals.

Mobil 1's customers are really picky about their vehicles. They use better oil than they probably need, and change it much more often than they need to.

Well I think Mobil would be well-advised to include a used oil analysis sampling bottle and paid sample (just pay for shipping/handling) with every jug of their new Mobil 1 eXtended Drain oil they sell, just as an introductory gimmick.

I think this sort of marketing would get a lot of the 'non-believers' onboard. After all, look at how well Amsoil has done pushing their oils on the premise that 'oil analysis' shows that they are suitable for long drains.

I wonder if Mobil will limit the marketing of the Extended Drain oils to actual auto parts stores. This would address one of the marketing channel conflict issues whereby a premium product becomes a price based commodity when pushed at Everyday Low Prices.

Mobil has little marketing loyalty from the auto parts stores, including the big chains, because they have put their Mobil 1 product Everywhere. Thus many auto parts stores now sell Redline, Royal Purple or other small blender oils so as to have something special to offer their customers. Mobil would be smart to only put the M1R and M-Extended Drain oils into the auto parts channel.
