Hogwash. While 10w30 is perfectly acceptable year round in Texas, a 5w30, particularly one like this, is absolutely interchangeable. In fact, it's preferred under certain circumstances, if looking for A1/B1 (or A5/B5 under the last batches), dexos1, or your vehicle simply calls for a 5w30 and you wish to follow that.
Seasonal oil changes, particularly in gassers, are essentially obsolete. If you find 5w30 some form of compromise in your climate in the summer, 10w30 is as well, if one wishes to be picky. Why not a monograde 30, and then switch to something like 20w-20 or similarly antiquated in the winters there?
