My daughter got a new 2011 Chevy Equinox with the V6 3.0 liter Direct Injection Engine.

I know she has to use at least a Dexos Approved oil, I usually use synthetic Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum.

Any fuel injection cleaners recommended ? I like Techron.

Any other services recommended?

i dont really know of any services the dealer would not frown on. but i would run seafoam threw a vacuum line every oil change...

my oil rec would be PP and 4-5k ocis

Just remember the techron, or any fuel injector cleaner used in the fuel tank will not keep the intake valve from forming deposits on DI engines.

GM recommends that you use "Top Tier" gasoline in their vehicles and requires Dexos 1 oil as you have mentioned.

Others will chime in about fuel additives I am sure.

Remember, DI directs the fuel straight into the cylinder, so there are differing schools of thought on the efficacy of adds.

For DI, you might not be cleaning the valves with an additive. I personally believe that injectors don't typically get fouled in most any aplication typically/regularly. The big deals are valve deposits and fuel system lubricity.

Some adds such as redline SI-1 seem to claim that the cleaners can survive combustion and get recirculated via the PCV. I dont know how true this is.

So I run a circulation of different adds, which include SI-1, tcw-3, MMO and FP. The key in my view is to keep the hpfp lubed for long life.... And then of a good add can circulate around via PCV (I don't believe it as then it would likely survive the catalytic converter and screw up HC emissions and possibly peak converter temps, neither of which are good.

So yeah, I'd look for dexos 1 with the lowest NOACK... Run a maintenance dose of your favorite lubricity add, and wait on the jury to see if that engine needs something like the bg process or a vac line cleaner every so often...

Thanks SrDriver, I use Top Tier in my Corvette, I will recommend this to my daughter. Excellant idea.

I don't think anything put in the gasoline is going to help with a DI engine.

GM and Ford claim they've solved the problems with intake valve deposits on DI engines by the location and direction of the injector and the timing of the fuel injection. Only time will tell.

I have an Equinox with the 2.4L. At about 30,000 miles I plan on running some of that 3M intake cleaner through it.

I've mentioned it in a few of these threads and the more I hear and read up on it the better an Inverse Oiler sounds for one of these applications. Other than that as Mechtech2 said: You have to live with the problems and complications of the DI system.

From what I was able to find thru research on GDI engines :
1. Run a top tier gas
2. A dose of Techron from time to time would help keep injector spray pattern clean as well as the fuel system (but it does nothing for intake valve cleaning)
3. Use a Dexos approved synthetic oil and change every 4K to 5K miles
4. Pray GM , Ford , Hyundai and other GDI engine developers did ALL their homework on these engines to control intake valve carbon .

I really have not seen anyone complain of a problem or complication caused by DI yet. I hear a lot of people fortelling of all the problems we DI owners are in for. I still have not heard anyone that has actually had a problem. (Not counting the older foreign jobbies like Audi and BMW). I mean American cars, especially Ford, Chevy and Cadillac.

I listened to a mechanic buddy complaining about them just yesterday, especially the GM version. I guess it depends on who you talk too.

My Terrain has DI, I am sticking to top tier fuels and 5k OCIs. This is nothing different than I have done in other vehicles. We shall see!!
