New Cooper Discoverer HT

Got some new Cooper Discoverer HTs in 265 70 16 for my silverado. These tires are awesome. The smoothest and quietest my truck has ever been. Got them from tire kingdom for $530 out the door. Also getting a mail in rebate for $60 from cooper. I really couldnt be happier with these.

Lol I know right, I really didnt like the ATRs, I didnt want to spend 800 for michelins, and These had a 60K Mile warrenty, so I went with em

They are good tires for the money. It is pretty hard to beat a set of Michelin LTX MS2 though. They are pricey but the traction is far superior than the Coop's. But I had a set of the HT's on an older truck I had and couldn't complain about them at all. Not a huge fan of the idea that Cooper is now Indian owned, but what can you do.

I have the same tires on a 92 Dodge D250 2 wheel drive truck. Have not had the chance to try them in snow or rain.

Must be good... Cooper has been selling that model of tire, unchanged, for at least 10 years now.

I've had a set of those on my Dakota for 5 years now. They're quiet and grip well. About the only complaint I've had is that they wore faster than I expected- at 32000 miles, I'm to the point where I can see the top of George's head on all 4 tires, which seems a lot faster than I'd have expected for 60,000 mile tires- I don't think I'd get 28k out of 1/16" before they're legally bald.

I'd return them, but the shop I got them from has gone out of business.

Send Cooper an email and see what they have to say about it. I bet they'll offer or do something about it. It's an issue they should know about and stand behind their product. Link:

This is a good reason to register your tires when you buy them. Or if there's a recall.

I paid extra for the LTX M/S2 just for the snow traction. The original poster is in Florida, I'd probably have done what he did in his situation.

I'll second this observation. I've had a few sets with about 30K tread life, right now my friend has 265/70/16s on her tundra and she likes them. The warranty from the small box store requires 8K rotation intervals to maintain tread warranty. Not doing that. Maybe one rotation to even out the front/back wear.

I can't complain; $130 for a tire of this size is not bad.

FYI:I've always used a penny to measure tread depth, so Abe is more applicable.

What I read is that the top of Abe's head is about 2/32 or 1/16", which is the legal limit for treadwear.

However, they recommend 1/8" of tread (4/32" or 2/16") for safe stopping ability, and 6/32" for snow traction.

4/32" is to the top of George's head on a quarter, conveniently enough.

I have these on the escape. I don't know much about tires but they seem good. We have about 35k miles on them and the tread still looks new as far as depth for the most part.

the two things I can say about tire for me are:

1) The MPGs seem to be a bit less than the OEM Generals.
2) 12" of snow is no problem for my FWD escape and these tires.

After driving my new Continental CrossContact LX20s for 3-4 days, I can say that the Coopers are a MUCH harder riding tire- new or old, they picked up every little bump in a way that the Continentals don't.

Have these in LT235/80r17 on my F150 with about 6/32 inch when I bought the truck. Cant comment on snow, but straight line and handling traction is...sub par. Looking forward to upgrading next year.
